Background
The Winter School is about transformative exploration of traditional architecture, ecology and tradition, bringing together specialists, academics, practitioners and students. Over two immersive weeks, participants engage in lectures, hands-on workshops, and studio projects aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of traditional architecture in an open setting. This is a practical Winter School, with an emphasis on working with others, discussions and critical thinking.
Highlights
- — Expert Talks: Lecturers share insights on urban planning, urban morphology, eco-communities and design systems related to principles of traditional building techniques.
- — Engaging Studios: Participants develop design concepts through site analysis, masterplan sketches, and drafting exercises based on a master-planning proposal at the farm. Under the guidance of specialists, participants refine their skills in creating sustainable and culturally resonant designs.
- — Field Experiences: Farm tours, sketching sessions and engagements with the farmers via hands-on activities provide a connection to local ecosystems and inspire creativity.
- — Networking Opportunities: Daily meals, group discussions, and informal gatherings around a fireplace offer participants the chance to exchange ideas and build lasting professional relationships.
- — Grand Presentation: The program culminates in participants' presentations to a jury, showcasing visionary designs that integrate traditional methods.

• General Admission Fee: QAR 1,800.
